Format
The individual works are created on paper from the Carta Pura sketchpad: 140g, off-white, acid-free, 100% cotton, 17 x 24 cm
Songtitles
The song title is laid out graphically on the page using a selected font. The colours are predefined. They are created in the RGB colour space. In general, the primary colours red, green, blue, yellow, magenta and cyan have been assigned to the songs. Each primary colour is adjusted according to the numerical length of the song title and the artist’s name.

Zuordnung der Zeichen zur Richtung der Reihen

Assignment of characters to the direction of the rows
The characters that appear in the song title are written vertically. The rest are written horizontally. This applies to both letters and special characters.
Writing the lists of letters
The letters are written by hand above the printed title, starting from the centre of the page and extending halfway up and down or left and right, using a "Rotring Tikky Graphic 0.2 – pigmented ink".
Arrangement of abstractions
The abstractions are arranged so that there is a 5 mm gap between each one.
They are arranged alphabetically, from left to right and from top to bottom.
Definition of individual blocks
The individual blocks are arranged to form a portrait-oriented block. For each letter, the arrangement of the individual blocks across columns and rows is determined such that the difference between the number of columns and rows is minimised, whilst at the same time keeping the number of blank spaces in the last row as low as possible.
The individual block has a 1 cm outer margin.

For the series ‘naive Playlist’, 41 works are transformed into an abstract form:
The set of rules is based on the following parameters of the songs:
- Artist
- Song title
- Lyrics
The song title is printed on a sheet in a colourful, graphic design.
The lyrics are analysed for the letters they contain, and the letters are written manually in rows for each letter over the printed graphic text.
The positions of the rows of letters are determined by rules based on the relationships between the aforementioned parameters. Deviations are permitted in the execution based on aesthetic judgement. There are vertical and horizontal rows.

IDEA

I organise my music using MediaMonkey. My music library contains 67,000 tracks. These are organised into 240 playlists. That’s far too many for me to remember anything here. That’s why I record track properties for all songs according to various criteria. To do this, I assign self-defined ‘emotions’ so that I can generate mood-based playlists. MediaMonkey has a rating scale of 0–5 stars. In February, I listened to the ‘Naive, 5 Stars’ playlist and was somehow moved by the songs. As I’d always wanted to do something with the playlists, I came up with the idea of creating an abstract, pretty sheet for each song in the playlist, based on rules.
At the time, the ‘naive 5-star’ playlist comprised 42 songs.
